Oil and gas in China

China had proved oil reserves of 15.493 billion barrels at the end of 2007 and produced an average of 3743.3 thousand barrels of crude oil per day, 4.77% of the world total and a change of 1.6 % compared to 2006. China is the world's second largest consumer of petroleum products after the United States, consuming an average of 7854.55 thousand barrels a day of oil in 2007, 9.3% of the world total. China has accounted for around 40% of world oil demand growth over the past four years and as a result has become a very significant factor in world oil markets.
